Gensler’s approach to the development in the Woodlawn neighborhood of Chicago was to design from within the community. To do so, the team conducted many community engagement meetings. The Chicago Housing Authority asked us to provide a portal with access to all project information, meeting reports, and solicit feedback.
We chose to create a single-page scrolling site due to the project’s small budget, a tight timeline, and appeal to a broad audience. To keep costs down, we designed, developed, and then maintained the site in-house for the duration of the community meeting series. The client pleased that, due to their familiarity with Wordpress, they could upload new content and moderate the community feedback themselves.
